Volkswagen TDI Diesel Recall

Concerned about buying a VW with all the recent headlines about the diesel recall? Get all facts first.

1. This issue affects TDI diesel cars only. Gasoline cars are NOT affected.
   
   
2. Models to be recalled:
   • 2009-2015 VW Beetle 2.0L TDI
   • 2009-2015 VW Golf 2.0L TDI
   • 2009-2015 VW Jetta 2.0L TDI
   • 2009-2015 Audi A3 2.0L TDI
   • 2014-2015 VW Passat 2.0L TDI
     
     
3. Why is this a big deal?
   
   Because VW installed software on those diesel cars that lowered emissions only when being checked. The rest of the time, the emissions were much higher in an effort to not compromise performance with the turbocharged diesel engines.
   
   
4. Why would VW do this?
   
   Because they could not achieve a successful balance in performance and emissions on their diesel engines, so they decided to cheat the system.
   
   
5. Are gasoline VWs affected?
   
   No. VW has a full line of gasoline powered engines that are not affected by the recall, which still provide a reasonable balance of performance, gas mileage, and emissions.
